Rolling the Rolls for Korean Steel Industry

The Korean steel industry plays a hugely important role in the economic growth of the country by steadily providing materials to the automotive, shipbuilding and construction sectors.

While the prices are higher than the competition from other countries, the quality is far superior which is important for us because we cannot stop production every time so that we change a roll, it would cost us too much in production time,” said an executive from one of the big Korean steel mills.
As part of the seminar, they visited TaeguTec’s technologically advanced roll production facility which is virtually completely run by robots. Giant robotic arms carry carbide rolls from one machine to the other during production, a process that inspires confidence in the purchasers.
“I see why these products are of such high quality now. Besides their incredible efficiency, their quality checking is also of the highest value. This is one of the reasons why we trust TaeguTec,” said another executive.
The Korea Iron and Steel Association foresees a modest 3 percent growth in domestic demand this year to some 57.1 million metric tons, thanks to a brighter outlook for construction.
“With construction increasing here in Korea and in the south of the country, our demand for products has increased. TaeguTec helps us be efficient in our production and helps us continue to produce high quality products, this is important for us because if we drop our quality we will lose orders to foreign companies,” said a production manager from another one of the big Korean steel producers.
One of the products executives were interested in is TaeguTec’s highly successful Composite Rolls, which are ideal for intermediate and finishing mills including slitting stands.
“What I like about this is that it gives me minimum downtime for changes, a process that is attributed to longer groove life-cycles,” said another customer.
During the seminar, TaeguTec Composite Rolls product manager explained that this hot seller is easy to assemble and disassemble, has no slippage under extreme working conditions of high rolling torque and low rolling speed and reduces mill downtime which in turn, maximizes productivity.
But the true merit of these customer seminars is the personal interaction between TaeguTec and customers who are curious to find the best grades and designs as well as to listen to some of the troubleshooting advice from one of Asia’s largest metalworking companies.
