Global Industrial Decline Felt by EU Machine Tool Sector

Regional industrial demand is keeping growth on track for Europe’s machine tool builders
+4% EU machine tool consumption
+4% EU machine tool imports
+3% EU machine tool exports
The European machine tool industry has supported the EU’s “Ecodesign Directive” — a policy setting mandatory requirements for energy-using and energy-related products sold in all 28 member states. However, in its year-end statement the industry’s representative body emphasized it is developing “serious concerns” about the program’s applicability to industries that are based on products that “unique, custom-made and built to respond to our customers’ specific demands.”
Accordng to Jean Camille Uring, president of CECIMO and executive board member of Fives Group. He concluded: “Complex industrial products in a complex sector need an adapted approach.”
